Low Carb in the
UKWell, Sucralose was approved for UK use as of 15th March 2002.
The Tabletop product was launched to the UK 4th November 2002 (My Birthday, what a nice present from Tate&Lyle!) Tablet form followed in January 2003, and Splenda has been seen is a few Low-carlorie products since.
I have spotted it in Boots Shapers range of Drinks, and in Ocean Spray Classic Cranberry Lite (although, that still has quite a dose of sugar added as well :-( ). There is also a Soft drink brand called "Harvest Fruits" made by Silver Spring, a company in Folkstone that also produce "Perfectly Clear", flavoured waters which lots of supermarkets stock, so why can they not stock "Harvest Fruits"?!?
So, all well and good, but I know that we want more! Lobby the Supermarkets!!! Address contact details below.

Dear Sir/Madam,
As Sucralose is now an approved Sweetener in the UK, I would ask that your
stores stock food items sweetened with it (or any of the other approved
Sweeteners, such as Cyclamates, Acesufame K and/or Saccharine), rather than
just the exclusive use of Aspartame.
This will to promote consumer *choice* in the diet foods section, rather than
the present Aspartame monopoly that is the current market.
For your reference, I enclose the URL of "The Sweeteners in Food Amendment (England) Regulations 2002
(SI 2002 No. 379)", which came into force on 15 March 2002:
"http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2002/20020379.htm". There are Similar
Amendments for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, all which can be found
from The Food standard Agency.
I would like to see things like (insert your wants here, i.e. Sugar-Free Coffee
Syrups, Diet Pop, Breath-mints and of course Cakes and buns!) as freely
available on your shelves as they are on American, Australian and Canadian
shelves, where this English discovery has enjoyed approval these last 10 years!
Either use I would also like you to stock the new Splenda tabletop sweetener, as again, this promotes Choice, which is good
for your profits, and also gives the market a sorely needed non-nutritive
sweetener that can be uses in home baking (unlike Aspartame), and has no
aftertaste (unlike Saccharin)!
or use I applaud you for stocking the new Splenda tabletop and tablet sweeteners! This promotes Choice, which is good
for your profits, and also gives the market a sorely needed non-nutritive
sweetener that can be uses in home baking (unlike Aspartame), and has no
aftertaste (unlike Saccharin)!
As you no doubt know, practically all tabletop sweeteners are 90% Maltodextrin,
10% Aspartame, and are therefore useless when it comes to baking, regardless of
Brand. Some add 5% AcesulfameK, and then say that you can cook with them, as
AceK is heat stable, but as I am losing the value of the 10% Aspartame by
heating it over 70C (as it is not heat stable above that point), I believe that
it is a waste of my money to buy these products!
My Thanks for your Prompt attention in this matter
Kind regards

Cut and paste this into your e-mail Client/word
processor, edit how you want, (And do change it, as companies pay far more attention to personallised letters!) then either e-mail it or print it, sign it and
snail-mail it to the addresses in the contact pages.
Whatever... No excuses now, just do it!
